U.S. House Stalls on Crypto Legislation Despite Trump’s Push
The U.S. House of Representatives failed to advance key cryptocurrency bills, defying former President Donald Trump's assurances of swift action. Conservative Republicans initially blocked their own party's effort to bring the legislation to the floor, creating a deadlock that persisted despite private negotiations.
A proposed compromise to merge the CLARITY Act with a separate bill banning central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) backfired, drawing sharp criticism from Financial Services and Agriculture Committee members. Lawmakers warned the merger WOULD jeopardize both bills, leaving the standoff unresolved as hard-liners demand ironclad guarantees on the CBDC prohibition.
